Youth Check-in Alternatives
When implementing Self Check-in with youth, you have a variety of options to consider. Each boasts its own advantage. Your final choice will depend on what’s most important to you.
Youth Self Check-in Badges or Self Check-in List
Through reports KidCheck automatically creates barcodes unique to each child that can be scanned at a check-in station to complete a self check-in. This can be completed by the youth themselves or a volunteer manning the check-in station.
Advantages: This will allow a check-in without going all the way into the parent’s check-in account. It quickly checks in just the one child so there is no worry about accidentally checking in siblings.
Youth Creating Their Own Guardian Accounts
If the youth is 13 or older (in order to comply with COPPA), one option some customers opt for is the youth creating a guardian account for themselves then adding a child of their same name under that account. The youth could then check themselves in using their own phone number or even a keytag.
Advantages: The youth’s own phone number will be in your system for easy contact (including texting). You can assign a keytag to the youth with this method.
Disadvantages: The youth is not directly connected to their actual guardian within KidCheck so you would need a secondary method to see who a youth’s actual guardian is.
Parents Creating Youth as Authorized Guardians
Another option could be to have parents create accounts as normal (with themselves as guardians and their child as a child). They could then add an authorized guardian to their account using the child’s name and phone number which the youth could use to check-in through (again, making sure the child is 13 or older).
Advantages: The child is still listed underneath the parent/guardian for emergency and contact purposes. The child’s guardian account (which they would check-in through) can have a keytag assigned to it and can have the child’s cell phone number available for texting in KidCheck.
Disadvantages: This will take some extra effort in initial setup, but could be beneficial in long term use.
